Chairman
John Bayles
John began serving the Township as a trustee in 2000. He is currently serving in his seventh term having served the Township for over 24 years.

Education: Graduated from River Valley High School in 1980.
Occupation: Agricultural Commodity Grader at USDA. John previously owned and operated Bayles Poultry Farm for 26 years.
Married: Barbara – 38 years
Children: John and Barb have 3 daughters, Melissa Caldwell, Katie Bayles, and Jessica Bayles. They have one grandson, Leelan, and two granddaughters, Oaklynn and Stella.

Matt "Chunk" Carwell
Matt is currently serving his second term as a Canaan Township Trustee. Matt brings with him to this position his experience from working at the Morrow County Highway Department, where he has been employed for the last 20 years. In his spare time, Matt enjoys fixing up some of his special "Chunky Sauce" BBQ Sauce.

Tyler Levering
Tyler is currently serving his first term as a Canaan Township Trustee. He was born and raised in Canaan Township and continues to raise his family here. Tyler has worked for Columbia Gas for 4 years. For the past 15 years he has also owned and operated his own construction company.

Children: Tyler and Brittany have four children. Three daughters - McKinstry Marynn (10), Ellison Tyler (7), and Breelyn Nichelle (4) and a son Briggs Anderson (2).
Meet the Fiscal Officer
Jill Retterer
Jill began serving the Township as the fiscal officer in October 2018. She fulfilled the unexpired term of Deana Detwiler, who retired after serving the Township for over 31 years. Jill was then elected to a four year term which began on April 1, 2020.

Education: Graduated from Mt. Gilead High School in 1981 and attended Marion Technical College graduating in 2012 with an associates degree in Health Information Technology.
Occupation: Routing Manager for Mid-Ohio Sanitation and Recycling since 2010. Jill previously worked for the family business, Retterer Manufacturing for 15 years.
Married: Todd - 38 years
Children: Bethany Johnson, Rachel (Anthony) Marozzi, and Levi Retterer. Todd and Jill enjoy spending time with their families and their 6 grandchildren - Mylee, Brooklynn, Arianna, Lenny, Aurora, and Alex.
