On November 4, 2025, voters in Canaan Township participated in elections to decide on various levies and elected officials. The township's 2.5 mil fire levy was due to expire on December 31, 2025, having been maintained at the same rate since 2015. Following extensive discussions with Chief Mark Carey of the Mt. Gilead Fire Department and in response to rising service costs and the need to replace outdated equipment, the trustees decided to propose a new "additional" 3 mil levy on the ballot. Ohio has discontinued the use of replacement levies. The outcome of the fire levy vote was 63 (55.26%) opposed to the levy and 51 (44.74%) in favor of it.
Matthew Carwell and Tyler Levering were both seeking re-election and faced no opposition. Their upcoming four-year term will commence on January 1, 2026.
