Canaan Township 2024 Year End Review

December 2024

As we look back at this past year, we would like to share some of the events and successes for Canaan Township this past year.

At the beginning of 2024, the trustees spent time working on road signs in the township, straightened and making note of signs needing replaced. In order to maintain the roadways, they fixed potholes on numerous roads and maintained ditches. The trustees agreed to continue to support the Clover Posse chapter of 4-H, located in Canaan Township, as they worked to clean up miles of roads in the township.

In March, the township discussed and approved to continue the township’s mowing contract with Mr. Ebert for the 2024 mowing season.

During warmer months, the trustees worked together to help trim trees in the cemeteries and clear fallen trees from ditches along roadways.

The remaining ARPA funds were allocated for multiple projects and the purchasing of equipment to help maintain our township. The APRA funds were used to seal and paint the township building’s parking lot, repair the concrete sidewalk along the building and add a concrete apron around the pole building as well as a new sidewalk leading to the pole barn, sandblasting the handrails at the township hall to remove rust and applied a fresh coat of paint, as well as the purchase of a dump trailer to help with maintenance and work in the cemeteries. Township Road 74 had a large sandstone structure that needed repair. The trustees used the balance of the ARPA funds, paired with road and bridge fund money, to tear out the sandstone and replace the culvert with a forty foot squash pipe.

The township partnered with Morrow County’s contractor to chip and seal roadways throughout the township. Roads that were chipped and sealed were TR 10, TR 61, TR 62, TR 64, and TR 71, nearly 4 miles of roadway. Later in the year, TR 60 between TR 67 and CR 61 was widened and paved during an OPWC project. The culvert was also replaced under the road in order to ensure proper drainage.

As you can see, the township spends many hours and resources maintaining our roadways, cemeteries, and township hall. The township hall is rented out many times over the year and is a nice venue for township residents to hold special parties for birthdays, anniversaries, and family gatherings.

In closing, 2024 brought a successful year of growth to our township. As 2025 begins, we look forward to working together with our community to ensure the best future for those who call Canaan Township home.

Best Regards,

Canaan Township Trustees
